Prem Shankar Jha wins Redink ‘Lifetime Achievement Award - 2020

The Mumbai Press Club has bestowed the coveted RedInk Awards for Lifetime Achievement on senior journalist and author Prem Shankar Jha, 83, for his long and distinguished career of incisive and analytical writing. Besides holding leadership editorial positions in several mainline dailies and periodicals, Mr. Jha has also authored more than a dozen books on Kashmir, China, and other subjects.

Danish Siddiqui, who was Reuters’ Chief Photographer based in India, and who was killed on 15 July 2021 on duty in Afghanistan, has been posthumously awarded the ‘Journalist of the Year – 2020’ for his spectrum of the investigative and impactful body of news photography ranging from the Rohingyas and anti-CAA protests to Covid-19 and the Afghanistan Civil War.

These awards, along with 24 other winners in 12 categories, will be presented on Wednesday, 29th December 2021 at 6.30 PM at a virtual event at the hands of the Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana. The Hon'ble Chief Justice will also deliver the keynote address at the event.

The RedInk Awards for Excellence in Journalism, instituted by the Mumbai Press Club, have special significance this year as they mark their 10th edition of peer recognition for excellent writing and good journalism.

The virtual event will be hosted on Facebook, and participants are expected to register on https://experiencenext.in/RedInkAwards2021/login.html to gain access to the event venue as well as to a wide variety of archival material and exciting sidelights. Journalists and other viewers can also view the event on https://www.facebook.com/mumbaipressclub.

The virtual ‘Awards Night’ will reveal the final winners among the five best story nominations in each of the 12 categories of awards. The event will also be packed with interaction and debates on the way forward for journalism.

The awards are a multi-layered contest of print/digital and video stories where first eminent curators sift through hundreds of entries to shortlist the best ones. Juries are set up for each category and constituted of persons with domain knowledge, then discuss and debate amongst themselves before deciding on the final winners.

The RedInk Awards were instituted a decade ago to recognize good investigative and feature writing and raise the bar of journalism in the country. This year, the title sponsor for the event is Zee Entertainment Enterprises and is supported by Indiabulls Housing, L&T Financial Services, Aditya Birla Group, Viacom18, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals and Adfactors PR.
