Mumbai Press Club condemns violence by train hooligans in which a senior journalist Sudhir Shukla was injured today morning. Shukla, who works for India TV, was attacked by a group of suburban train commuters between Mira Road and Andheri.

These commuters are known for blocking others from traveling on trains in peak hours. The violence goes unchecked by the police despite repeated incidents. 

Shukla made an attempt to board the train as he wanted to reach his office early. When he pushed in, the goons beat him up and inflicted injuries on his head. 

Shukla is being treated at Cooper Hospital. Andheri Railway Police are probing the attack.

Mumbai Press Club has informed higher ups in the government and police, and asked for arresting the attackers. It has also demanded that a permanent mechanism be put in place on all suburban lines to prevent such attacks on hapless commuters.

This isn't just our cause, but a larger public issue that needs to be fixed immediately.
