REDINK AWARDS 2019 completes Judging and Selection Process in 12 Competitive Categories

Mumbai 13 June:

The RedInk Awards attracted over 1,000 entries this year in 12 competitive categories, and after a grueling process of selection by ‘curators’ in each category, the short-listed entries were put before carefully selected juries. The open and transparent method of judging by the 12 juries has now been completed after 6 weeks of sifting, short-listing and the final selection of winners in each category.

The important process of ‘curating’ – both sifting and identifying stories for entry – was carried out by those with expert domain knowledge in the subject. Similarly, each category jury had eminent and knowledgeable persons from the field under study.

Each of the juries acknowledged that they saw a high standard of entries both in the ‘print’ and ‘video’ sections; and there was stiff competition among the short-listed for choosing the winner.

The juries included well-known names such as Niranjan Rajadhyaksha, Research Director & Senior Fellow at the IDFC Institute, Nirmal Jain, chairman of IIFL group (Business & Economy), Film maker Saeed Mirza and Sanjay Pandey, Director General of Police – Home Guards (Human Rights), film critic Khalid Mohammed (Entertainment and Lifestyle), Dolly Thakore (Women’s Empowerment) and K.Madhwan Pillai - Editor of Better Photography magazine (The Big Picture) and leading public prosecutor Ms Rohini Salian (Crime).

This year saw the introduction of a new category – ‘The Arts’ – which had a more-than-expected number of entries of journalistic pieces on Art and Culture. It was curated by distinguished art critic Ranjit Hoskote and adjudged by a well-known panel of three – Shanta Gokhale, Anil Dharker and Mustansir Dalvi.

The winner in each category – one each for print/digital and TV/video – receives a cash award of Rs one lakh, a RedInk trophy and a citation at a glittering Awards Night on Friday 28th June, at the Jamshed Bhaba Theatre, NCPA.
